DAYTON, Washington – The Dayton City Council will consider tonight (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. whether to allow voters to decide if the city should permanently separate itself from the Columbia County Rural Library District. The city has the option of putting the issue before voters by way of a ballot measure.
Columbia County Rural Library District Director of Library Services Ellen Brigham said tonight’s decision is important. She explains if the city were to detach itself from the library district, the library would lose a fair amount of funding.
However, Brigham’s biggest concern is that Dayton residents, which constitute the biggest population center in Columbia County, would no longer be able to receive free library cards and all the benefits that come with them.
Tonight’s city council meeting will be held at Dayton City Hall, 111 South First Street.
