Pickleball is on the Hermiston agenda

HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council will hear about a site selection for pickleball courts. The city has been approached by the Hermiston Pickleball Club, which wants to research, fund-raise, and build courts in the city. The issue is on the agenda for the council meeting tonight (Monday) at Hermiston City Hall.
The Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department has supported the club’s efforts. After a review of different sites, the committee has chosen Theater Sports Park. It is endorsed by the parks department and is recommending it to the council. The estimated cost of the development is $650,000. If the site is approved, the committee will raise funds to meet the development costs.
At its last meeting, the council heard a motion to rescind the decision to institute a business permit requirement from Councilwoman Jackie Linton. Until Ordinance 2352 was passed, business permits were not required in the city. City staff determined it was not possible to rescind an ordinance that had already been put in place. It went into effect on Feb. 22. In other words, the adoption to rescind cannot undo an adopted ordinance. The staff report says the council can choose to let the ordinance stand or vote on an ordinance to repeal the business permit requirement.
The meeting is being held in city council chambers. It will also be streamed live on Hermiston’s YouTube channel.
