PENDLETON – A westbound Union Pacific freight train caught fire Thursday afternoon on tribal land near Duff Road and Homly Road in Pendleton.
Meg Siffring, a member of Union Pacific’s corporate communication’s team, said the fire was reported at 2:15 p.m. and originated in a train car. The fire was extinguished, and train traffic resumed.
There was no impact to the tribal land or nearby river. The incident remains under investigation.
The Umatilla Tribal Police Department also responded to the scene.
