HERMISTON – Garbage rates will increase in Hermiston. The Hermiston City Council has improved a rate increase for Waste Connections, Inc. WCI has been doing business as Sanitary Disposal, Inc., a smaller company it took over.
WCI told the council that the aging fleet in addition to the need for increased hourly raises for employees are the main reasons for the increase. Some of the equipment has been in use for almost 30 years, the company said.
City staff told the council that even with the increase, the new rates will be competitive with solid waste disposal companies in the area. The new rates will be $17.46 for a 35-gallon cart and $29.05 for a 90-gallon cart. The rate increases will take effect on April 1.
