SPOKANE – Former Pasco police officer Richard Aguirre was sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison for the 1986 murder of Ruby Doss whose body was found in a vacant lot in East Spokane.
This past December, a Spokane County judge ruled Aguirre was guilty of first-degree murder in connection to Doss’ death.
In 2015, DNA found at the scene matched Aguirre’s. In 2016, there was a mistrial, and he was found not guilty of killing the sex worker.
In 2017, charges were dropped due to evidence issues. He was then re-charged in
2021, but a mistrial was declared after a jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
At his sentencing hearing, Aguirre’s defense argued for a lesser sentence citing Aguirre is vulnerable in prison as a former police officer.
According to Aguirre’s defense, he wanted to address the court Monday; however, his attorney advised him not to do so.
