Marjory May Peck, a beloved pillar of the Haines community, passed away on February 7, 2024, at the remarkable age of 101. Born on January 6, 1923, in the serene landscapes of Haines, Oregon. Marjory found joy in life’s simple pleasures, cherishing moments spent picnicking with her beloved husband, Dean, and engaging in spirited card games with the North Powder/Haines Ladies Club. Her genuine kindness touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, earning her profound love and respect throughout the community. A dedicated member of the Rebekah Lodge for an astounding 60 years, Marjory also served as chairman of the board of directors of the Haines United Methodist Church. Her involvement extended to various community groups, including the Haines Mutual Improvement Club, the Elkhorn Grange, and the VFW Auxiliary, where her contributions were invaluable. Family was the cornerstone of Marjory’s life, and her unwavering devotion to her loved ones knew no bounds. She resided on Neil-Peck Lane, just North of Haines, Oregon, where she was born, embodying a deep-rooted connection to her hometown. Marjory’s marriage to Dean in 1945 marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership, blessed with two daughters, Mardean and Marilyn. Though Dean’s passing in 1985 left a void in her heart, Marjory’s love for him endured, a testament to the enduring power of love. Marjory’s journey was one of resilience and dedication. Despite opportunities elsewhere during World War II, her love for the Baker Valley kept her rooted to her hometown, where she served as a teller at the Baker State Bank and later at the Haines Post Office alongside her brother Vernon, the postmaster. Her legacy of love and service will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, let us honor Marjory’s memory by continuing her legacy of compassion, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the community.
