WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Community College is dedicating approximately 1,500 square feet, including sheds and fencing, to create a community beehive project on the Walla Walla campus.
Launching this spring, the new project will provide space and connection for local beekeepers as well as multiple opportunities for education about the role of pollinators in agriculture and horticulture, food production, and healthy ecosystems.
The goal is to have the hives in place by May 1 for non-commercial use and study. Under a new bee ordinance recently passed by the Walla Walla City Council, the campus can host up to 15 hives. Beekeepers interested in putting a hive at the college, should contact Jeff Strickler at 509-540-5027.
