BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker School District) Baker High School has hired Simon Lamson as the new Activities Director for the 2024- 2025 school year. Mr. Lamson is currently teaching PE at Oliver Middle School in Portland. Originally from a small community in northern California, Mr. Lamson is excited to return to a small town where he and his wife can raise their young son and continue the tradition of success at Baker High School.
The position has transitioned from a more traditional Athletic Director to an all-inclusive Activities Director. Mr. Lamson will support students and staff in all aspects of extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs like FFA and FBLA, and programs like Choir and Band that require travel and time outside of the regular school day. “We are excited to be able to broaden the scope of this position to include the support that is needed for all our students who choose to participate in any extracurricular activity. All of our students will be supported and held to the same standards,” said BHS Principal Skye Flanagan. “Simon has a ton of enthusiasm that we are excited to take advantage of at BHS.”
Another aspect of this position includes a period of Driver’s Education that students can take either first or second semester. This course will give students the opportunity to learn and practice during the school day, all but eliminating the need to take up time during the evening and weekends. Students who take the course can also earn elective high school credit.
Al McCauley will continue as the Athletic Director for Baker Middle School, and the District Athletic Program will also continue to receive operational support from Karen Cuzick and Tammy Mercado at the middle and high school levels.
