People in more rural areas of Union County will soon pay a little more for garbage service.
The Union County Board of Commissioners recently approved a 3.4% rate increase for Waste-Pro.
According to Commissioner Matt Scarfo, the increase matches the one requested by Waste-Pro, which provides garbage collection service for much of Union County.
Scarfo said Waste-Pro managers said the increase was needed primarily because of rising overall costs. He said the increase will specifically be for those who use Waste-Pro around Union County and not in the La Grande city limit.
Elkhorn Media Group has attempted multiple times for comment from Waste-Pro.
Waste-Pro holds a franchise arrangement with the county, offering services to numerous unincorporated areas. Additionally, it serves La Grande, Island City, Imbler, Elgin, and Cove.
