HERMISTON – (News release from the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office) The Umatilla County Sheriff’s office is actively investigating a death following an altercation reported between two males outside in the vicinity of N Highway 395 and Punkin Center Rd, Hermiston.
Today (February 9, 2024) at approximately 6:30 a.m. the UCSO Regional Dispatch Center received reports of a physical altercation involving two males, both sustaining severe injuries.
Law Enforcement and medical units promptly responded to the scene. (We want to thank Hermiston Police Department and Umatilla Police Department for their quick response). Both individuals involved in the altercation were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, one of the males, identified as a 51-year-old resident of Hermiston, succumbed to his injuries. The other male (27) sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
The Oregon State Police Crime Scene Unit and Umatilla County Search and Rescue were requested and responded to the scene for processing.
The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies, continues its investigation into this incident.
Preliminary assessments suggest that this is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
