JOHN DAY – Heart of Grant County Director Beth Simonsen broke the news to KJDY listeners on Wednesday that the nonprofit has received a $40,000 grant from the State of Oregon to supplement their Survivor Housing Fund. Simonsen said that Heart can be somewhat flexible with how they help survivors:
“It’s designed more for people–maybe they’re already through their crisis, but maybe they just need help to stabilize their life. Whether it’s security deposits, and rent, and all that. Or clothing so they can go to work, or get their car repaired so they can go to work. I mean, [they are] pretty flexible dollars.”
She continued with:
“We work with our community partners, that also provide housing assistance, and utilities, and all of that. Some of them cannot write a check today like we can.
Maybe you qualify for subsidized housing, but in order to get through the process, you need some money today. We can help with that.”
Simonsen said survivors interested in learning more can stop by the center at 115 NW Bridge St. in John Day.
