LONG CREEK – Long Creek School District will be receiving an Early Literacy grant from the Oregon Department of Education. Superintendent Larry Glaze informed KJDY listeners on Tuesday that around $42,000 will be dedicated to early literacy efforts at Long Creek.
K-3rd Grade Teacher Denise Porter said that part of that money will help to send staff members to an EOU-led training:
“We have two long Creek staff members that are going to be going through this workshop. It’s…going on through the spring. Hopefully, that will give us a better understanding and help us to better teach our students and make sure they have all the pieces and parts they need to be successful readers.”
Head Teacher and next year’s Superintendent Joan Walczyk mentioned another part of the funding will be put toward curriculum to support their Benchmark Reading Program.
