PENDLETON – Students at McKay Creek Elementary School in Pendleton will return to school to find a new car-line shelter to protect them from the elements. The McKay Parents Club hired contractor Chris Prewitt for the job which began on Dec. 21.
The club raised money for the project, receiving grants from the Pendleton Foundation Trust, Amazon Change X, AgWest Farm Credit, and the Roundhouse Foundation. Then, during the winter break, the concept became a reality.
The club had to coordinate with the city of Pendleton. Most of the school’s playground is actually McKay Neighborhood Park, which is operated by Pendleton Parks and Recreation.
“The shelter will be used for pickup, drop off, and other school activities during weekdays,” Jody Jenson of the parents club said. “It can be used for community activities in the evenings and weekends.”
