Christmas cheer was felt by many in La Grande thanks to Community Kindness of Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE – Around 200 people attended this year’s Complimentary Christmas Day Buffett put on by Community Kindness of Eastern Oregon.

This annual event is held for those who find themselves alone or anyone who needs a place to enjoy a meal and have a chance to socialize.

Liz and Grant Meyer along with everyone at Community Kindness of Eastern Oregon want the community to know that they care, and that is why they hold these sorts of events each year.

In a note from Liz Meyer, she expressed her thanks to everyone who helped make this another great event. “Thank you to Elkhorn Media Group especially Shannon McKone for her amazing track on what’s going on with us. Ron Wheeler for all his help planning the food with us, his willingness to always step up & help with his culinary expertise. Our volunteers & staff with Community Kindness. Support from Pepsi, Sorbenots, Sodexo, Millers Home Center, Blue Ribbon Linen supply, GRH, Allstate, Fitzgerald Flowers, CHD, Liberty Theatre Cafe, Voodoo Pastries & many community members who made monetary & food donations and who helped.

In true Liz fashion, she also noted, humorously, special thanks to Grant for “freaking putting up with me.”

Other holiday events held this year by Community Kindness included students from Stella Mayfield in Elgin being invited to shop for Christmas gifts for their families while enjoying lunch and ice cream.

Meyer said that they wanted to make sure everyone had a present for their family and the kids were able to pick a present for themselves as well.

When asked why she holds events like the dinner and various other events throughout the year, Meyer said “I just want to make sure everyone feels loved and cared for.”
