IRRIGON – Two men were arrested last week for first-degree theft and parole violations. Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson said that Charles Melvin Pevy, 46, and Jason John Trickel, 44, are being held in Umatilla County Jail on $100,000 bond each.
Employees at the International Line Builders facility in Irrigon had noticed a white pickup truck driving around the area and became suspicious. Then, on Dec. 21, a company representative alerted police that a large spool of aluminum and two spools of copper were missing. That same employee was driving around and called law enforcement to report that he saw a spool being unloaded from a pickup truck on Wagon Wheel Loop and alerted sheriff’s deputies.
A search warrant was obtained and the deputies found the spools in a shed on the property. That’s also where they found the two suspects, who one deputy said were hiding in the shed.
First-degree theft isn’t the only felony charge Pevy and Trickel face. They are also charged with felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Nelson said that’s because they used construction equipment to load the spools into their pickup. The two are also well known to law enforcement.
“Pevy and Trickel have criminal history that would lead to a repeat property offender status,” Nelson stated.
