Harney County-On Thursday, December 21, 2023, Oregon State Police, Harney County Sheriff’s Office and Harney District Hospital EMS responded to an unknown injury commercial truck and trailer vs Mini Cooper collision near milepost 163 on HWY 20 in Harney County. Investigation revealed a white Freightliner pulling a semi-trailer were traveling eastbound, when the Freightliner and trailer lost control due to icy roads from heavy dense freezing fog. The Freightliner and trailer began to jackknife. The Freightliner and trailer came to an uncontrolled rest, and the trailer was blocking the westbound lane. Shortly after a Mini Cooper was traveling westbound when the driver noticed the truck and trailer blocking the lane. The driver attempted to stop to avoid hitting the Freightliner and trailer, but the Mini Cooper lost control. The mini Cooper struck the trailer. The driver of the Mini Cooper was able to move the vehicle from the roadway. Only minor injuries were sustained from the passenger of the Mini Cooper.
In the means of this accident being cleaned up, a secondary crash occurred. A Black Dodge pickup was stopped because of the road being blocked from the previous collision. A White Chevrolet Van struck the black pickup. He driver of the van stated he didn’t see the Dodge come to a stop until it was to late. No one was injured in the secondary collision.
