UNION COUNTY – Union County would like to reminder livestock owners who have experienced death or injury to livestock caused by wolves that they have until January 31 to apply for compensation. Through the county’s wolf depredation compensation program, livestock producers may apply for compensation for any reported death or injury to livestock from February 1 through January 31. In addition, producers may also attempt to apply for any missing claims that have not yet been compensated. As stated in the program’s official description:
“Grant funding is provided by the Oregon Department of Agriculture to Union County for distribution to livestock producer applicants. Funding is available for producers who have suffered losses within Union County due to wolf depredation and for nonlethal wolf deterrence techniques designed to minimize wolf-livestock conflicts.”
Applications, along with more information about the program, are available online at https://union-county.org/union-county-wolf-depredation-compensation-program/
Producers may also call the county at 541-963-1001 for additional information.
