JOHN DAY – As Oregon gun restriction ballot measure 114 goes before the Oregon Supreme Court, Oregon House District 60 Representative Mark Owens told KJDY and News102 news staff that he feels passing more gun laws would make the gun violence problem worse:
“If we look at the amount of gun laws that have passed [in] Oregon in the last couple years, we still have a higher rate of gun violence. It is not the tool, it is the person. We need to look at more things than trying to restrict tools that can be used. We need to look at mental health. We need to look at drugs. We need to look at a lot of things in Oregon that could make a difference in gun violence instead of trying to restrict our rights.”
Representative Owens commended Judge Rob Raschio’s decision to rule the ballot measure as unconstitutional.
