PENDLETON – The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office has had an agreement with the city of Pendleton that allows deputies to take target practice.
“We own the gun range and the county sheriff’s department obviously needs to requalify its sheriff’s deputies,” Mayor John Turner said.
Turner said that the city allows UCSO to use the gun range. Meanwhile, Pendleton Fire & Ambulance answers medical calls and performs hospital transports to the Umatilla County Jail. The jail had been reserving one jail bed for the city’s use as part of the agreement.
“We’re now going to get two jail beds for that,” Turner said. “It doesn’t sound like a huge increase, but believe me it’s going to be effective in helping the municipal court judge.”
