COLLEGE PLACE – The city of College Place has begun planning a future water reservoir project that would consists of four tanks: the 1940s steel water storage tank in the center of town, two on the east side of town built in the early 2000s, and a tank that has not yet been built.
With the current infrastructure in place, City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello said there is only about a million gallons of water storage. He said that buys the city a little over 24 hours of storage. However, most public water systems provide around 72 hours of storage.
The city plans to break ground on the new tank in 2025. To pay for it, city officials are working on obtaining state and federal funding and developer contributions, as well as using money from the city water fund.
“We’re planning a million-gallon tank,” he said. “It will provide additional storage, also accommodate future growth.”
The estimated cost of the new tank is $15 million. Rizzitiello said it will be located on the west side of the city on the grounds of the treatment plant.
