JOHN DAY – DEVELOPING STORY: In the latest from the City of John Day, the Committee to Recall Mayor Heather Rookstool has issued a press release stating they have gathered one-and-a-half-times the required number of signatures to hold a special recall election. According to the release, the committee is comprised mostly of current and former John Day city employees. Our newsroom is awaiting confirmation from the Grant County Clerk’s office on the recall effort.
While they were not specific, the committee alleges that Mayor Rookstool has violated her oath as mayor, along with city laws “on occasions too numerous to recount.” The committee also called for her resignation.
Mayor Rookstool informed our newsroom that since she has not seen the official approved recall, she has no comments at this time. Stay tuned for updates.
