PENDLETON – The popular AAU basketball tournament Clash at the Border is returning to Pendleton after a three-year absence due to the pandemic. It’s scheduled for Feb. 3-4, 2024. This will be the 24th year the tournament has been held, thanks to the efforts of the Pendleton Basketball Club.
The Amateur Athletic Union competition has hosted more than 80 teams from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The tournament is for boys’ and girls’ teams in third through eighth grades. Quality playing surfaces are part of the package. The exact number of locations depends on the number of teams entering it. The tournament will have certified referees and there are various lodging options for teams traveling from out of town. There will be gifts and prizes for the winning teams and their coaches in each division.
The Clash at the Border is an official qualifier for the 2024 Oregon Middle School Basketball Championship to be held in Central Oregon March 1-3 for girls and March 8-10 for boys. More information about that tournament in Bend/Redmon can be found at https://www.statebasketballchampionship.com/oregon.
Teams can register online at https://www.pendletonbasketballclub.org/. The proceeds from the tournament are used to cover the cost of staging the event as well as benefiting local Pendleton AAU teams and Pendleton High School basketball. Early registration, postmarked or registered online by Jan. 3, 2024, is $275 per team. After that registration is $325. The deadline for late registrations is Jan. 22, 2024.
