Celebrating Life
Steve Guentert,76, of Joseph, died November 2, 2023, following a massive stroke on October 6, 2023. His final hours were spent under the tender care of the palliative team at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. Family members were at his side.
He was born in Brady, Texas, August 20, 1947, the son of Elgin and Mary Guentert. He became the baby brother of Tissie Chandler of Gladewater, Texas and Mike Guentert of Joseph, Oregon. On December 24, 1973, Steve married Marylou Guentert. They had two children: Jake Guentert of Texas, and Marsha Moore of Joseph.
Steve was a ranch-hand, a Marine, and, for the past 30 years, a resident of Wallowa County. Here, he found new interests and a new life. He learned to patina bronzes, enjoyed his time as a ditch-walker, and lived on and loved his tree farm.
He is survived by his wife and children, two granddaughters — Addie and Eva Moore of Joseph, his sister and brother, and much-loved nieces and nephews.
The family will scatter Steve’s ashes on his tree farm next summer.
