WA, OR senators to offer bills creating year-round standard time

The biannual changing of the clocks will be a thing of the past in Washington and Oregon if Sen. Mike Padden (R-Spokane Valley) and Sen. Kim Thatcher (R-Keizer) get their way. Both are introducing bills that would keep the two states on standard time.
Padden said it just makes sense.
“It’s better for people’s health and has other advantages,” Padden said. “Everybody’s got to adjust when you’re changing the time all the time and it’s a negative thing.”
Both states already approved legislation to remain on daylight saving time year-around, but the U.S. Congress and the President must sign-off for it to become law.
Remaining on standard time doesn’t require federal approval. Thatcher and Padden said they have contacted legislators in California, Idaho, and Nevada to see if they will introduce similar bills in those states.
