PRAIRIE CITY – Halloween has yet to pass, but the Prairie City Fire Department are already thinking about Christmas! Every year the department partners with the City of Prairie City to get together food and gift baskets for local residents in need. According to volunteer Georgia Patterson, the applications are available at City Hall, Huffman’s Market, and the Prairie City Post Office for folks who would like to sign up. Applications must be returned by November 15th.
Tags for children will be placed on the Giving Tree, which will be displayed during the city’s Christmas on the Prairie Celebration. Mayor Scott Officer said anyone wishing to donate to the program can do so at City Hall:
“The City is accepting donations for their Christmas Basket Program. So, anybody that would wish to donate to that…go to City Hall and leave a donation for that, and then we put together Christmas baskets.
At the end, like [with the] Giving Tree, if there are names left for kids on the Giving Tree that [have not been] selected, the City will go pick that up and use those donated funds to help with that.”
