Impaired driver almost hits school bus in Harney County

Harney County-October 18, 2023, around 5:22 pm, Oregon State Police responded to a report of a driver who nearly hit a school bus head-on near Crane on HWY 78 in Harney County. The driver Alan Hayword, 65, was located at his residence off of HWY 78 in Harney County, and evidence of impairment was observed.
According to Police documents, Hayward denied having recently consumed alcohol, and stated he hadn’t had anything to drink since he had driven. Hayward consented to a field sobriety test and further evidence of Impairment was observed.
Hayward was placed under arrest for DUII and transported to the Harney County Jail. Hayward was cited and released for DUII and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
