JOHN DAY – Schools all throughout Grant County and statewide are focusing in on student attendance through the Every Day Matters program. Grant Union Jr./Sr. High School recently added the Behavior Interventionist position to the school staff roster, and Behavior Interventionist Megan Nordstrom informed KJDY’s Coffee Time listeners that she works with students to identify chronic absenteeism:
“I do see the barriers and things like that, that we need to address. Being able to talk with them and have conversations, and building rapport with the students can really help at learning why they don’t like to come to school, why they do, and how we can change things.”
As part of the Every Day Matters program, Specialist Bonni Booth mentioned that there are incentives for the students with perfect attendance, but the prize (for now) is a surprise.
