PENDLETON โ The Oregon State Police had to use stop sticks to halt a Dodge pickup that was traveling westbound on I-84 from La Grande to Pendleton Tuesday at around 5:17 p.m.. Emergency dispatch received multiple calls reporting the truck was traveling at over 100 miles per hour and passing on the shoulder.
A trooper reported that the pickup was involved in three crashes, but the driver kept driving each time. In one of those crashes, a driver was injured.
The stop sticks were deployed at milepost 218 flattening both front tires. Carl Ben Myers, 67, of Union said he was being chased. He and the injured driver were both taken to St. Anthony Hospital. WSP reported that it notified mental health services about Myers and booked him into Umatilla County Jail.
He is charged with felony hit and run (injury) in addition to three counts of reckless endangering, two counts of misdemeanor hit and run (property), and one count of reckless driving.
