CANYON CITY – UPDATE (3 :30 p.m.) Grant County District Attorney Jim Carpenter provided the following information to our newsroom:
“Here is a summary of the matter that TJ Palmer pleaded guilty to:
On February 1, 2023, OSP Fish and Wildlife Troopers contacted a male adult at his residence in Mt. Vernon regarding unlawfully possessing a 6×6 bull elk head. Further investigation revealed that the subject did not lawfully harvest or possess the elk. He was issued a citation for Unlawful Take/Possession of Bull Elk. The elk was seized.”
PREVIOUSLY POSTED: A man will have his hunting license revoked, and also spend some time in jail on local wildlife violations according to Grant County Circuit Court documents. Travis A Palmer, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of Taking, Angling, or Trapping in Violation of Wildlife Law or Rule.
Palmer was sentenced to a total of 120 hours in jail, and his hunting license has been revoked for life. He is also to be placed on Bench Probation for 12 months and ordered to pay a $500 fine.
The details surrounding the crime were not released. The violation was committed around the first part of February, 2023.
