City council to consider tightening parking ban

PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council meets at 7 p.m. today (Tuesday). The council’s regular meeting was postponed to this week as council members and other city officials welcomed a delegation from Minamisoma, Japan (Pendleton’s sister city) last week.
The council will vote on accepting a grant from the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development. It will allow the city to pay for a consultant to study a proposal that would expand the city’s urban growth boundary by 50 acres.
The council will continue its public hearing on whether the municipal court should become a court of record. At its last meeting, the council delayed voting on the measure while the issue of unintended costs was studied.
A public hearing is on the agenda regarding a change to the city’s traffic ordinance. Following the hearing the council could vote on approving the proposal. It would reduce the duration a vehicle can be parked in one location from 72 hours to 48 hours. It will also prohibit sleeping and living in vehicles except for what is allowed by the resting ordinance.
