Pine Eagle Students Give a Big Sendoff to a Baker County Deputy

HALFWAY – There are few better ways to cap off a forty-year career in law enforcement than cake and cards from local students. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office recently shared a story of how on Thursday, October 5, the Pine Eagle School District helped celebrate the upcoming retirement of Deputy Brian Harvey.

Serving in law enforcement since 1983, Deputy Harvey joined the department in May of 2020 after previously serving as the City of La Grande Police chief from 2009 to 2020. According to the BCSO, Deputy Harvey primarily served as a resident deputy to the panhandle area of the county. With news of his retirement, the students and staff of the Pine Eagle School District decided to do something fun. Teachers asked Harvey to stop by and help serve lunch for the kids only for him to be surprised with a full-blown retirement party. As best put by the BCSO:

“When he arrived, he was greeted with a very enthusiastic cheer from the students, thank you cards and was even given the title of ‘Honorary Spartan.’ We can’t think of a better send-off!”
