JOHN DAY – Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley was on Coffee Time Thursday. The Sheriff mentioned a couple of recent incidents that have dealt with wildlife in town. He talked about one instance that involved a mountain lion:
“There has been a cougar roaming around up off of Bumpy Road and that part of West Bench, and we had reports that it actually had gotten into somebody’s livestock pen and took a goat. I believe it was dealt with.
Just be cognizant of that…there are predators out here. Be prepared to deal with them. If they are in there trying to get your livestock, take care of it and then let us know.”
He said to keep track of your livestock and pets, and to be aware of any unfamiliar noises.
Sheriff McKinley also reminded motorists to watch for the deer out on the highways as well as in city limits.
