MILTON-FREEWATER – The city of Milton-Freewater’s new police and dispatch station is running about a month behind its original schedule due to a redesign of the building’s roof. City Manager Linda Hall said the original bid specifications called for a specialized roof from a limited supplier.
“We worked with the contractor and architect to redesign this to use a more traditionally sourced and designed roof,” Hall said.
The redesign saw the city save about $300,000. Hall said redesigning the roof did cause a delay in the building’s completion.
“We want to be careful and make sure one change in the design does not result in a ripple effect of other aspects of the building’s design,” she added.
It is now estimated that the new building will be substantially finished in mid- to late-November.
