HERMISTON – The Hermiston Police Department confirms that two people were injured in a shooting at 298 E. Hurlburt Ave. last night. Police responded to a report of shots fired at 8:04 p.m.
“Officers…located a black 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, OR Plate CB09485 parked in front of the driveway at 298 E. Hurlburt,” Police Chief Jason Edmiston said. “There was blood at the location and signs of an altercation.”
He said that a short time later officers were advised of two people showing up separately at Good Shepherd Medical Center with gunshot wounds. The two are Cuauthemoc Romero, 52, of the above address, and Moises Garcia, 57, of 793 E. Jennie Ave.
Romero was wounded in the abdomen and shoulder. The other had a head wound, but the bullet did not penetrate the skull. Police learned that Romero was later taken to a Portland hospital via Life Flight. There is no report on Garcia’s condition due to his head injury. The Portland Police Bureau and the Oregon State Police are working to gather evidence from Romero in Portland according to HPD.
The two men know each other and were described as not very forthcoming regarding the incident. Detectives responded to the shooting scene along with the Oregon State Police forensic unit and the scene was processed. The truck at the scene was processed and a search warrant for it is in process for later today.
Edmiston confirmed that Romero is the husband of Graciela Garcia who was reported missing on Nov. 11, 2019, and that Moises Garcia is her brother.
