Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics Recognizes Patriot Day 2023

LA GRANDE – (Release from Grande Ronde Hospital) In 2009,the United States Congress designated September 11th as an annual National Day of Service and Remembrance. As a tribute to thousands lost and injured during the attacks on 9-11-2001, Patriot Day was established as a way for Americans to give back to their local communities, to our first responders, and to those who rose in service to our country to defend freedom.
Beginning in 2002, it was the 9/11 family members who lost loved ones in the attacks that led the effort to petition Congress for an appropriate and fitting tribute to honor their loved ones, the many first responders, and those who volunteered to serve in response to the tragedy.
They sought to establish a national tradition and create a lasting legacy for their loved ones. They wanted to see Patriot Day as a way to engage our country in volunteer service and helped those in need. The leadership efforts of these family members resulted in the legislative establishment of the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
On Monday 9-11-2023, Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics will mark Patriot Day by honoring Union County First Responders – our local law enforcement, fire fighters, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, search and rescue, and military – as well as our own first responders and those military veterans currently working within our organization.
On 9-11, our flag will fly at half-mast in honor of those who choose to serve, protect and care for us every day, but especially during the most difficult of times. We can think of no better way to honor the sacrifice and service synonymous with 9-11 than by celebrating the dedication of our own local heroes.
