JOHN DAY – ODFW John Day District Wildlife Biologist Ryan Torland was in the KJDY/News 102 newsroom recently, informing listeners that as we come into the fall season, we need to keep an eye out for bears as they pack on their winter weight:
“We do have fall bear season going on right now, so [people] can do that. But also, this is the time of years where we get bears coming into [ town]. Canyon City is always kind of a problem, so, it’s that time of year when you need to start thinking about bears. They like coming in to fruit trees.
Get that fruit picked and get rid of those attractants. Get garbage picked up—get that taken care of. Get that away so you’re not bringing bears in unintentionally.”
Folks are encouraged to call the Grant County Communications Dispatch Center if a bear were to become a problem in town.
