Victim, suspect identified in fatal Pendleton shooting

PENDLETON – Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram has released more details surrounding the shooting in the 400 block of Northwest 15th Street early Saturday morning. Shane Alan Shippentower, 34, of Pendleton passed away at the scene as first responders attempted to revive him.

Police have arrested Alexander Alton Moore, 24, of Irrigon. He was taken into custody Saturday afternoon at Northwest 11th Street and Ellis Avenue. Moore is charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and a probation violation warrant.

Both of those identities were withheld when the shooting occurred due to the ongoing investigation and the need to notify the next of kin. The additional investigation included a forensic investigation of the crime scene with the assistance of the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, and the autopsy of the victim in Portland at the medical examiner’s office. Next of kin notifications were also made.

The Pendleton Police Department was assisted by the Oregon State Police, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, the OSP Crime Lab, the state medical examiner’s office, and the United County District Attorney’s Office. All further information about the case is to be addressed by the DA’s office.
