Morrow County Fair opens Wednesday

HEPPNER – The first day of the Morrow County Fair is tomorrow (Wednesday). Gates open to the public at 9 a.m. The fair is a true slice of life in rural Oregon.
“Fair brings everyone together from Morrow County and surrounding areas,” 4-H Ambassador Madison Orem said. “It also lets youth show off their exhibits and stuff they’ve worked all year on.”
Orem says she’s one of those young people who worked all year on fair entries.
“I did sewing, cooking, photography, livestock,” she said. “Basically anything you can think of to compete in, I did.”
Orem graduated from Ione High School this year. In the fall she will attend the University of Idaho where she will major in animal science and agriculture business.
The fair schedule for each day is posted on the Morrow County website at https://www.co.morrow.or.us/fair/page/county-fair. Highlighting the first day will be the small animal show at 10 a.m., livestock judging at 2:30 p.m., a presentation starring Morrow County Sheriff’s Office K9 at 4:30 p.m., and the RDO tractor pull at 5 p.m.
The Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo performance is at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. While the fair office and building closes at noon Sunday, the arena stays open for the Morrow County Jackpot Rodeo at 1 p.m. Local cowgirls and cowboys will be competing in a number of events from barrel racing to amateur calf roping.
The fairgrounds are on Highway 74 in Heppner.
