Manulife Forest Management Lands in Northeast Oregon Closed Due to Fire Danger

LA GRANDE – (Release from ODFW) All Manulife (formerly Hancock) Forest Management lands in northeast Oregon are now closed to public access due to fire danger.

The restrictions impact Manulife Forest Management properties in the Shamrock, Whiskey Cr, Noregaard, Little Catherine Cr, Meacham Travel Management Areas and any other Manulife Forest Management properties enrolled in the Access and Habitat program throughout northeast Oregon.

With fire season underway, hunters and other outdoor recreationists are reminded to check for access and fire restrictions before heading out. Common restrictions are:

  • Smoking and off-road driving prohibited.
  • Vehicles are required to carry a gallon of water or fully charged 2.5 pound fire extinguisher and shovel when off state highway or county roads. ATVs must have a fire extinguisher.
  • Campfires are restricted or prohibited.
  • Private timberlands normally open may be closed to all access or have travel restrictions.

The Oregon Department of Forestry public fire restrictions map is a good source of info, https://gisapps.odf.oregon.gov/firerestrictions/PFR.html

“Know before you go” and check with the land manager where you are headed (such as the U.S. Forest Service or private lands that allow some access) for fire restrictions and closures before heading out.
