PENDLETON – Pendleton police officers took Shay Anthony Holt, 32, of Spokane into custody following a vehicle pursuit and foot chase that ended in the 1300 block of Southwest 44th Street in Pendleton Friday night.
Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram said that Holt’s vehicle was seen by an officer on Southwest 30th Street and Southwest Hailey Avenue and observed that it didn’t have any working tail lights. Holt failed to pull over and continued driving to Southwest 37th Street near Southgate Place, where he did stop.
“As the officer approached the vehicle on foot, the driver sped away at a high rate of speed,” Byram wrote in an email. “A vehicle pursuit ensued onto Southwest Quinney Avenue to Southwest 44th Street and into Community Park where the driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot.”
Byram said that other responding officers found the suspect running in the 1300 block of Southwest 44th Street and took him into custody. A loaded silver and black Taurus .38 was located on the passenger side front floor of the vehicle.
Police charged Holt with attempt to elude in a vehicle and on foot, reckless driving, and being a felon in possession of a weapon. There is also a felony warrant for his arrest out of Washington state. The case is being referred to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office.
