John Day, Prairie City and Hines-The Malheur National Forest has temporarily implemented bike trail closures near Magone Lake due to noncommercial thinning activity. The noncommercial thinning activity is part of the Southern Blues Restoration project which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Joint Chiefs’ Landscape Restoration Partnership. The project goals are to reduce and mitigate wildfire threats to communities and landowners, protect water quality and supply for communities and industry, and improve habitat concerns for at-risk species.

The temporary closure restricts public access to the following Magone Bike Trails:

  • Back of Beyond, trail number 5096
  • Beyond, trail number 5098
