Scammers spoofing the Harney County Sheriff’s Office

Harney County-We have received reports that scammers are spoofing Harney County Dispatch’s phone number 541-573-6156 and claiming to be Sheriff Jenkins, providing a fake badge number.

While a community member was reporting they had received this call, the scammer called back, this time speaking to Deputy Ellibee. This scammer claimed an illegal amount of hydrochloric acid had been ordered and again claimed to be Sheriff Jenkins. The scammer continued to hold the ruse, offering to meet Deputy Ellibee who returned the offer to meet him at the sheriff’s office with handcuffs – the scammer apparently didn’t like this.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Oregon is experiencing similar scam calls.
