HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council has approved a major partition that will allow more development on the Amazon Data Services campus. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan says the partition accommodates the extension of Southeast Ninth Street from East Penney Avenue south to Feedville Road. That will open up land for the campus on the west side of the Ninth Street extension.
“They’ll be extending water, sewer, and all the other utilities in the street to that new Southeast Ninth frontage,” Morgan said.
Because the action includes a new road, it had to be approved by the city council instead of simply the planning commission. In the long run, it will mean more taxes for the city.
“The assessed value of the property will substantially increase as it develops industrially,” it stated in the staff report to the city council. “However, enterprise zone property tax abatements have been issued for development on Lot 1 which defers receipt of property taxes for several years.”
