Domestic Violence Call Leads to Standoff and Arrest in Baker City

BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker City Police Department) On July 23, 2023, at 0300 hours a disturbance call was made to Baker County Dispatch where the caller reported her boyfriend, Craig Willey, was throwing her stuff around the residence. Baker City Police responded and determined that Willey was wanted on active warrants. These warrants were directly related to Domestic Assault/s where the caller from this disturbance was the same victim.

Willey fled from officers from this residence, jumping fences and ultimately running back inside 2440 5th Street where he ran upstairs of the two-story house and refused to come down. Baker City Police negotiated with Willey as he threatened to kill himself by jumping out of one of the upstairs windows.

After over an hour of negotiating with Willey, with no progress of him coming down peacefully to surrender, officers attempted to take him into custody. Willey crawled outside the south-side upstairs window of this house and hung onto a tree as officers gained control of Willey’s legs.

Officers were able to pull Willey back into the residence where he was taken into custody with no significant injury to Willey or the responding officers.

This is still an active investigation and additional charges are expected.
