MALHEUR NATIONAL FOREST – Earlier in the year, ODFW Fish Biologist Dave Banks from the Hines office was in the KJDY and News 102 newsroom explaining a project in the works to eliminate Brook Trout from High Lake and parts of Lake Creek within the Strawberry Wilderness.

According to an update from Banks, the project will not be implemented this summer as planned, due to coordination difficulties regarding some of the permitting steps.  Banks wrote, “We are still planning to move forward on this next year, during July or early August.”

This may come as good news to some hikers and anglers, as there are still Brook Trout in High Lake for another year, and the trails will remain open for public access.
