STRAWBERRY WILDERNESS – A recent Grant County Search and Rescue mission turned out for the better, according to Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley. The emergency communications center reports that at 2:07 p.m. on Saturday, a cell phone call came in near Slide Creek Campground for the report of a lost hiker. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office, US Forest Service Law Enforcement and Oregon State Police all responded.
According to Sheriff McKinley, the hiker had gotten off of the trail, got lost, and managed to get a cell phone call out. Luckily, the Sheriff said she was about 15 minutes from the trailhead and had sat and waited for rescuers to come and get her. Nothing further was released.
