WALLA WALLA – This week, the city of Walla Walla will be switching its primary source of city drinking water to groundwater wells. This is so crews can perform maintenance at the Mill Creek Watershed intake facility where the city’s surface water typically comes from.
With this change, customers may experience a change in the taste, odor, or temperature of their tap water. The city assures customers that the water meets all state and federal drinking water quality standards.
During this time, the city encourages customers to consider voluntary water conservation measures.
To save water, customers are asked to water outside during the cool parts of the day which could save up to 300 gallons a day; repair dripping faucets by replacing washers which could waste 2,700 gallons a year; and set lawn mower settings one notch higher as longer grass means less evaporation and could save 500 to 1,500 gallons a month.
