HERMISTON – The city of Hermiston has approved a bid to grind out and replace the asphalt from the travel lanes on West Highland Avenue between Highway 395 and Southwest 11th Street. The contract was awarded to Granite Construction, Inc. of Hermiston for $389,950.
The roadway received a complete slurry seal in 2015, including the bike lanes and parking spaces. Only the portion between Highway 395 and Southwest 11th Street has deteriorated, and Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said that deterioration is only on the travel lanes themselves, not the bike lanes or parking areas. That will make the project quicker than most.
“From the time that you see workers in orange vests until the time that you don’t is probably going to be about two weeks,” he said.
Morgan added that all work is being completed during the high school’s summer break and will not impact the Umatilla County Fair Parade.
