EASTERN OREGON – (Information from ODFW) For those looking forward to the summer salmon season, Chinook and Shad fishing officially opens on the Columbia River June 16. This applies to areas both above and below the Bonneville Dam.
For those looking for more local Chinook fishing, unfortunately, the wait is likely going to be much longer. As of the ODFW recreation report on June 14, Chinook salmon returns on the Wallowa River are still too far below the level needed to open the season. As stated directly by ODFW, “it is very unlikely that any Chinook salmon fishing opportunities will be available this year on the Wallowa River.”
