ODFW Recommends Alternatives to Those that Didn’t Draw Controlled Hunt Tags

OREGON – (Information from ODFW) The draw for this year’s controlled hunts came and went. As is the nature of any raffle, many hunters, unfortunately, didn’t get the results they were hoping for. For those still looking to hunt this season or just enjoy the outdoors, ODFW has a few recommendations for alternatives.

  • Hunt general season deer and elk. Over the counter tags can still be purchased, though the hunting areas may differ from the controlled hunt tags.
  • Go bear or cougar hunting. The fall Black bear season opens August 1 and general season cougar tags can be purchased year-round.
  • Go with someone who did draw a tag. While not able to participate in the controlled hunt yourself, you can still join someone else with tags on their trip.
  • Go upland game bird hunting.
  • Go duck hunting.
  • Go coyote hunting.
  • Go fishing.
